Since we often find it difficult to choose between the sound of the ocean and boat trips ourselves, you can find a detailed comparison of the equipment and locations directly on our overview page for a holiday home by the water for 8-10 people.

There you can comfortably compare which destination best suits your vacation plans. In addition, we created this FAQ page specifically to enable a completely flexible booking arrangement for your dream vacation and to clarify all questions in advance.

  • Regels en tips voor vissers: Is het in het park toegestaan?

    Yes, you can freely enjoy fishing within the park! You are not allowed to use groundbait, but you will do just fine without it! For fishing in the waters outside the park, a valid VISpas (fishing permit) is mandatory. This applies whether you are fishing along the canal or from the boat. The VISpas can be easily purchased online in advance through the official website of Sportvisserij Nederland. Additionally, a shorter one-week permit is available for purchase at a nearby fishing tackle shop. 

    Fishing, fish species, and regulations in the Weerribben-Wieden

    The Weerribben-Wieden National Park is renowned for its excellent population of various fish species. In the canals surrounding the park, guests regularly catch pike, zander, carp, and beautiful coarse fish. While it is a wonderful experience, a strict 'catch and release' policy applies to predatory fish throughout the Netherlands. Because of this, any pike caught must always be returned to the clean water immediately and with care.

  • Can I add extra options to my booking?

    Yes, both holiday homes are located in professional holiday parks and offer the option to add services to your booking! Think of the comfort of bed linen, a practical bed-making service, delicious barbecue packages, or high chairs. The choice is vast, and you will find everything in the booking screen of the respective parks. These extras can be added directly during your booking process. Furthermore, you can enjoy several amenities that are already included in our holiday homes! For instance, you can opt for fresh bed linen for extra sleeping comfort, while a barbecue package provides for a cozy evening around the grill. In addition, practical high chairs are available to make your time with the little ones much easier. These extras are provided directly by the park management as a premium service—all options easily added to your booking.

  • Are pets allowed? Can I bring my pet?

    Please note that pets are not permitted in our luxury holiday homes. This policy applies strictly to all properties within our premium segment. To ensure a safe, clean, and allergen-free environment for families, we maintain a strictly pet-free policy. This choice allows us to keep our high-quality interiors in pristine condition and ensure our rooms remain fresh and hygienic. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the comfort and well-being of all our guests.

  • You book our houses directly through the official Landal booking link. As a result, the current availability is always visible at a single glance. The system immediately displays the open periods for both Waterstaete and Zeedijk. This allows you to select your desired dates very easily. The planning of your dream holiday therefore begins directly online. Reception and reliable park management on siteThe complete park management is handled by the professional provider on site. The local reception arranges all practical matters such as final cleaning and maintenance. The team is also immediately available to help you in the event of technical problems.   • Booking Options and Towel Services Explained

    Are towels provided in the house?
    Fresh towels are not provided in our holiday homes by default upon arrival. You can, however, easily select them as an extra during your booking. Alternatively, simply bring your own favorite towels from home. The Landal system automatically calculates fresh bed linen for all registered persons. Because we want to make the start of your holiday even better, we recommend the bed-making service in Waterstaete. In Nieuwvliet, beds are already freshly made by default. Therefore, you can start your days off happy and relaxed immediately after unpacking.

    What additional options are available in Waterstaete?
    When booking in Waterstaete, you can look forward to a huge selection of great extras. You simply select these for a small surcharge in the booking portal. For example, fluffy towels, practical tea towels for the kitchen, and additional bed linen are available for you. Because the park operator delivers these things directly to the house, you don't have to worry about anything. Therefore, your stay will be perfectly tailored to your personal wishes.

    In Nieuwvliet-Bad, your relaxation begins instantly with included extras like pre-made beds, kitchen towels, and a complimentary service kit with essentials. Activities, BBQ and Arrival in the park

  • What are the arrival and departure days for the holiday homes?

    Changeover days:    Discover our holiday parks with beautiful houses that you can book directly through Landal. Compose your perfect weekend from Friday to Monday, enjoy a midweek break from Monday to Friday, or experience full weeks from Friday to Friday. The houses are available from 4:00 PM on arrival and must be vacated by 10:00 AM on departure.

    Differences between Nieuwvliet and Waterstaete

    Please read the most important details for your stay below: 

    For Nieuwvliet-Bad
    Digital check-in in Nieuwvliet: Your unique house code will be active from your booked arrival time. This allows you to decide your own arrival time, even if you arrive late in the evening. 

    For Waterstaete
    Key collection: An envelope with your house keys will be waiting for you here. Are you arriving late (after reception closing hours)?
    Please contact the reception by phone to make arrangements.
    License plate & barrier: For parking at Waterstaete, it is important that you provide your car's license plate number in advance.
    The barrier uses camera and license plate recognition to grant access.

  • Is bicycle rental available in Ossenzijl and Nieuwvliet-Bad?

    Yes, bicycle rental is offered in both Ossenzijl and Nieuwvliet-Bad. It is possible to rent various types of bikes, including e-bikes and traditional bicycles! Especially in Nieuwvliet-Bad, even more options are available outside the park, such as e-scooters, mobility scooters, bike trailers, and even cargo bikes to make your adventures even more comfortable!  

    Cycling nodes and digital navigation

    Both holiday parks are surrounded by cycling nodes. These can be planned digitally on your mobile phone using an app—such as Routiq. However, there are also plenty of physical signs along the way, just in case you are on a digital detox. The cycling node system in the Netherlands makes biking fantastic because it gives you the freedom to navigate completely flexibly, spontaneously, and without maps. You simply write down or memorize a sequence of numbers (e.g., 10 → 17 → 23), follow the signs, and decide the length and route of your trip as you go.

  • BBQ Rental: Is barbecuing allowed?

    Yes, BBQing/barbecuing is allowed! In both parks, you can easily order a BBQ directly at the reception—a wonderful way to enjoy a cozy barbecue evening! However, if you prefer to bring your own barbecue equipment, please note that only electric or gas barbecues are permitted. Due to the thatched roofs, charcoal barbecues are strictly prohibited, but the other options will definitely allow you to create delicious moments!
    After a long boat trip or a stroll along the beach, you can gather with family or friends on the holiday home's terrace to enjoy a wonderful barbecue at the spacious, covered outdoor table. It is a true pleasure to end the evening under your own steam with your favorite ingredients.

  • Swimming at Waterstaete: Can I swim at Waterstaete?

    Yes, swimming is excellent at Vakantiepark Waterstaete—and by the way, so is paddleboarding (SUP)! The holiday park in Ossenzijl is located directly on the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, providing ideal conditions for water sports. Paddleboarding: You can rent SUP boards on site. The price is approximately 10.00 euros per hour or 37.50 euros for a full day. It is highly recommended to reserve the boards through the park in advance.  

    Swimming

    The park itself does not have its own indoor swimming pool, but it does offer direct access to the surrounding public open waters. You can jump straight into the water right from your accommodation or swim from a boat. Additionally, there are many natural lakes in the immediate vicinity where you can enjoy your time. Enjoy the beautiful nature and peaceful surroundings while refreshing yourself in the water, and discover the picturesque shorelines during a relaxing day by the water. Whether you are looking for adventure with paddleboarding or simply want to relax—Waterstaete has something for everyone.

  • National Park Weerribben-Wieden: What kind of nature reserve is it?

    National Park Weerribben-Wieden in the Dutch province of Overijssel awaits you with the largest contiguous peat bog area in Northwest Europe! Let yourself be enchanted by this breathtaking water landscape, characterized by mysterious lakes, fairytale-like canals, and lush reed beds. Embark on an adventure and discover how centuries of peat-harvesting history harmonize with nature. The nature in the park appears completely untouched, but that is only an illusion.  

    History

    From the twelfth century onward, this peat bog transformed under human influence. In the past, the peat was dug up and laid out to dry on narrow strips of land known as 'ribben'. To transport the peat, ditches and canals, were dug by human hands. Unfortunately, dike breaches during severe storms led to major flooding, submerging large parts of the excavated areas and creating the lakes of the Wieden. The characteristic landscape of National Park Weerribben-Wieden is therefore largely man-made. Take the opportunity to be active and enjoy total relaxation—the best way to explore this beautiful environment is on the water with our boat or by bicycle!

  • Which supermarkets and shops are nearby Waterstaete?

    The best nearby supermarket option awaits you in the village of Oldemarkt. Oldemarkt is a charming village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. With around 2,600 inhabitants, it serves as the perfect starting point for exploring the Weerribben-Wieden National Park and for doing your daily grocery shopping. The village offers a historic backdrop with picturesque squares, old buildings, and a striking church. [1]

    The best way to explore the village is on foot or by bicycle. Here are some further highlights:  

    Shopping in Oldemarkt

    Leisure options: Visit the local escape room 'de Slager van Oldemarkt'. First of all, you will find a well-stocked PLUS supermarket here. Practical tip: you can always order online in advance and have your groceries delivered on your arrival day. However, it is also fun to stroll through the aisles and pick out exactly what you fancy for dinner or breakfast. In Oldemarkt, you will also discover inviting restaurants, a drugstore, a local bakery, and a small boutique—all offering everything you need for daily life just 5 to 6 kilometers away. You will even find a hardware store, a gas station, and a bicycle shop there.  

    Or head to Wolvega in Friesland?

    Alternatively, there are also numerous great shops in nearby Wolvega in Friesland. This includes several drugstores, perfumeries, boutiques, a HEMA, Aldi, Action, Albert Heijn, Jumbo, and a charming cheese shop—discover whatever you like! Insider tip: the Pokémon shop!

  • Child safety features: Are life jackets, railings, and more available?

    To enhance safety, we have added life jackets and a glass balustrade as extra equipment. In our storage room at the house, you will find a selection of life jackets in various sizes! Suitable vests are also ready for smaller children.

    Additionally, our wooden terrace is enclosed with a beautiful glass balustrade. This can be locked using the house key. The glass balustrade is made of resilient laminated safety glass and aluminum supports. It effectively protects you on the wooden terrace from wind and falls, without obstructing the expansive view of the garden. As a glass barrier, the fencing breaks the wind and creates a calmer microclimate on the terrace, which extends your time outdoors, especially on cooler days. Fall protection: at Waterstaete, the balustrade acts as a safety barrier that prevents falls.This provides an extra sense of security when staying by the water with children. Enjoy your time! And don't forget, the boat cushions are waiting for you there to ensure comfort on the boat!

    Experience the Zuidwestersloep ZWS595—a fantastic aluminum boat of approximately 6 meters in length with room for up to 8 people! With a cruising speed of around 8 km/h, it fully complies with all regulations for Overijssel and Friesland. This electric ZWS595 is equipped with a powerful battery pack that guarantees 5 to 7 hours of unforgettable boating pleasure. Thanks to its low clearance height, you can effortlessly pass under numerous bridges, including swing bridges! This opens up the smaller canals and the most beautiful, idyllic routes for you to explore. The boat is available from March until the end of October, ready for unforgettable adventures. One final note: only a security deposit needs to be paid!

  • What do I need to use the boat in the boathouse?

    The boat at Waterstaete is included and is waiting for you directly at the house in the boathouse! As soon as you have picked up the keys and the chip and received the instructions, your adventure can begin.

     Since operating the boat in the boathouse does not require a license, proper instruction is essential. For your holiday at Vakantiepark Waterstaete, the instruction process is simple, yet very important for your family's safety. Because you are allowed to steer the boats without a license, the park takes on the legal obligation to instruct you beforehand.

     The comfortable boat cushions are stored in the storage room—perfect for relaxing trips! The boat is at your disposal from March until the end of October. After that, it enjoys a well-deserved winter break.

  • How does boating work? The procedure explained!

    The use of the luxury aluminum Zuidwestersloep boat is fully included in the rental price. When booking at Vakantiepark Waterstaete, your stay automatically includes the boat! Upon arrival at the park, you will first watch a short instruction video. Afterward, the key and the chip will be ready for you at the reception. Since boating here is completely license-free, anyone over the age of 18 is allowed to steer the boat. The boat comfortably accommodates up to 8 people.  

    Charging and boating in the Weerribben-Wieden

    The powerful battery is sufficient for a boat trip of 6 to 8 hours. The exact duration depends on your speed and the wind. After your trip, you can easily navigate the sloop into your private boathouse. Here, the boat charges overnight using our own solar energy. Thanks to its shallow draft, the sloop fits effortlessly under the many picturesque bridges of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park.

  • Discover: Which supermarkets and shops are nearby in Nieuwvliet?

    There are several shops in Nieuwvliet for quick errands, alongside the many cozy restaurants and snack bars. While you will find everything you need for your daily essentials right in the village itself, larger towns with well-known shopping chains are located just 5 to 6 kilometers away.

    Discover the shop and supermarket in Nieuwvliet directly on the park or nearby. The shops offer a great selection. You will find a small market in the center of the park. You can also head to major supermarkets like Jumbo or Albert Heijn in Oostburg or Breskens, which are only a few minutes away by car. For small grocery runs, you can also take a nice bike ride along the dike to Breskens or Cadzand. If you are looking for shoes and clothing, Breskens, Oostburg, and Sluis are highly recommended.

    Breskens: The shops in Breskens are situated around the Spuiplein. At this central square, guests will find everything for their daily needs. Breskens features a large supermarket, a drugstore, household goods, and a bookstore. The selection is complemented by charming boutiques and the regular weekly market.  

    Larger supermarkets in Oostburg

    Oostburg: Oostburg is the best place in the region for large, modern supermarkets. These stores are centrally located and open seven days a week. Lidl and ALDI are great and affordable discounters offering fresh bread and vegetables. The Albert Heijn on Torenweidelaan has long opening hours, a wide selection of brands, fresh products, and EV charging stations for your car. The Jumbo on Langestraat is a spacious, modern fresh-food market with its own dedicated meat and cheese counter.

  • What are the top attractions in Nieuwvliet-Bad on a rainy day?

    With the attractions in the main central building in Nieuwvliet-Bad, you will find an indoor swimming paradise. This building features various pools and numerous waterslides. Experience a splashing adventure for the whole family, whether the weather isn't cooperating or right on your arrival day! Furthermore, there is an indoor playground, a restaurant, and a Coffee-to-Go counter. You can also simply have a cup of coffee and relax on the lounge furniture. A versatile range of leisure activities awaits you in the modernized central building. The main attraction is the indoor swimming paradise featuring three spectacular waterslides, while a splash pool. Additionally, the children's pool offer swimming fun for the little ones. In addition, a Kids Club, an indoor play paradise, a varied entertainment program, and dining options invite you to stay and unwind. In case of bad weather, you can make use of the private infrared sauna or enjoy a relaxing bath in the large bathtub inside the exceptionally spacious upstairs bathroom.

  • ‘Verdronken Zwarte Polder’? History and heritage

    The 'Verdronken Zwarte Polder' is an impressive nature reserve in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, near Nieuwvliet-Bad, located right by the park's wooden bridge, where nature and experience come together beautifully. This remarkable area was created by a dike breach during a powerful storm surge, when the sea courageously and tempestuously flooded the surrounding land, changing it permanently. Since then, the water flows through an open gap in the dunes, known as a tidal inlet (slufter). It enriches the diverse environment in an inspiring and sustainable way, creating unique habitats for numerous plant and animal species. Due to the rising and falling tides, a unique tidal wetland with gullies and salt marshes has emerged.

    The wide, expansive beach invites you to exciting adventures on a wonderful beach day! Did you know that prehistoric shark teeth are hidden in the area between Nieuwvliet-Bad and Cadzand? We have already successfully dug for them and are the proud owners of such a tooth. The southern part of the beach behind the park, with its breakwater rocks, is very popular. Here, children can find crabs and observe small fish during low tide.  

    Sandbanks, beach bars, and culinary highlights

    The gullies and sandbanks are wonderful for both young and older children to enjoy at low tide. Here, they can build dams to their heart's content or construct a knight's castle. Out and about without children? Walk from beach restaurant to beach restaurant and decide where the mussels taste best, who mixes the finest cocktail or mocktail, or which pancake tastes the best... The casual atmosphere on the terraces or inside invites you to unwind—everything is relaxed and part of the holiday feeling.  

    Active exploring and a local insider tip

    Take the opportunity for sports, walking, and fresh air. You can cycle over the dike to Breskens and take the ferry (with your bike or on foot) toward Vlissingen. There are so many ways to fill your time actively! If you cycle over the dike in the other direction, you will reach the "Het Zwin" nature reserve on your way to fashionable Knokke. Alternatively, you can walk along the beach to the next town, Cadzand, for delicious fish dishes or just a portion of 'kibbeling' (fried fish bites) at the snack bar!

  • What is the North Sea beach in Nieuwvliet-Bad like?

    The North Sea beach of Nieuwvliet-Bad stretches for kilometers and is extremely wide. This fine natural beach borders directly on the beautiful dune area 'De Verdronken Zwarte Polder'. Because the sea deepens very gradually here, the water remains shallow for a long distance. This makes the beach exceptionally safe for families with young children. During the high season, lifeguards also keep a watchful eye on selected stretches of the beach.  

    Hunting for real prehistoric treasures

    At low tide, large sandbanks and shallow tide pools emerge. These pools are ideal for children to paddle in and collect shells. Nieuwvliet-Bad is also famous as a true paradise for fossils. Visitors frequently find prehistoric shark teeth washed up on the shore.
